They're Hornets!

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. Ephesians 2:1-2 NIV

I went out one morning to open the chicken coop and was greeted by hornets. They built a nest over my backdoor. Several of them attacked me, and some got stuck in my hair. They stung my head several times until I took them to the shower for a soak.

Here’s the thing: they’re hornets! They attack people even if they mind their own business. I wanted to let my chickens out. Then, I got a bunch of stings. Since living in Texas, I have been attacked by hornets, fire ants, and baby snakes. One bit me in the face.

I didn’t clutch them to my bosom after the attack. Then, I wasn’t apologetic as I strolled by their homes. I went to the local store and bought hornet spray. They won the battle, but I took the war.

It’s different with Jesus, though. People will attack us without warning. I face this reality every week in Bible study and devotional live broadcasts. We can’t just remove them from our lives. They are dead inside. However, we all were as well.

We can only reason for their dark souls. Sow seeds into their hardened hearts. When unsaved people lash out without warning, we must remember they are dead inside. They’re hornets! The significant part is there’s hope for humanity in Jesus. Mercy and grace are waiting for them. They only need to hear and embrace it.

Enlighten dark hearts with Your love, Lord. Open their minds to the truth and hope in You. Let them see they need You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
