There Are Four Lights

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? Jeremiah 17:9 NIV.

I am a huge science fiction fan. One of my favorite Star Trek episodes is Chain of Command. Captain Picard got captured by the Cardassians. Gul Madred tortured him to get vital information. He kept asking Picard how many lights were above his head. The answer was four. Gul Madred said there were five. He tortured Picard to break him. Then, after the admission of five lights, he could get secret information. Picard almost broke.

Our world bombards us with news, culture, and pressures to conform. They desensitize us to believe the facts are false, even when it's right before us. They attempt to convince us there are five lights when there are four.

I even see Christians enveloped in false philosophies too. They believe false cultural, political, and spiritual falsities.

We should pray whenever the world tries to convince us something is wrong. The world is not our moral measure God’s Word is. We can trust Him or the news, Hollyweird, and other sources. Sometimes, they tell the truth. But what the news proclaimed as truth years back got exposed as lies now. It no longer matters since leaders got what they wanted. It mattered to me. I prayed and knew it was the truth years back when they had lied. The Lord revealed it.

Jesus knows all and is the truth. Why not pray to our all-powerful God? Fully devote and place our trust in Him because the culture will attempt to convince us that there are five lights, not four.

Lead us into truth, Lord. Your ways are truth. Help us be aware of scammers, leaders, or those close to us who attempt to sway us wrongly. Thank You for Your clarity in life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
