The Love Direction

ree

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 1 John 4:16 NIV.

Johnny Lee wrote a song called Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places. That was my life. One where I sought friendships, relationships, addictions, and other ways of fulfillment. Then Jesus came into my life. He completed me—a God who loves despite all our faults and failures. I gave my heart to Him. It brought the adventure of a lifetime.

I watched a documentary where scientists researched after-death experiences. Everyone they interviewed had the same experiences. They described an unparalleled love, a love before Jesus they had never encountered before. God sent them back with one desire. Love Him and others.

That should be our goal. We love Jesus and the souls for which He is fond. God desires us to do the same. It is the direction of love. That goes against our makeup. It is easy to love family, friends, and those close to us. But God requires us to love everyone—our enemies, political figures, dictators, and those we consider evil people. Jesus never condones what they do but loves them. Love the sinner, not the sin.

No one deserves to be separated from the love of God. People do have a choice. Jesus won’t drag them to eternity with Him. If they choose to separate from Him, they will for all eternity. We need to share that choice. That way, they have every opportunity to proclaim Him as Lord.

Pour Your love into us, Lord. Lead us against our carnal natures and love people despite their actions. Fill us with Your Spirit as we live the greatest commandment. In Jesus’ name, amen.
