The High Ground.

Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:1-2 NIV.

Obi-Wan Kenobi versus Anakin Skywalker was a great lightsaber battle. It took place on the planet Mustafar. A tactical advantage concluded it. Kenobi had the high ground. This won the day.

The high ground allowed armies to deny foes an advantage. It gave further reach for weapons. Then, it provided better scouting. People got ambushed when they didn't look up.

We get ambushed by life. This world gets difficult and brings us low.

We can get elevated to a higher level. Then, win with Jesus through prayer, praise, and surrender. These are the believer’s battle tactics. We pray His Word and by His authority. Then, lay struggles on His cross.

We could fight the conflicts ourselves. But then prepare for loss. George Pickett overlooked the Gettysburg battlefield. I was there and saw both ends. Pickett’s end looked as if no one could see them coming. The other end angled and showed visibility to a marching army. Northern troops saw his charge, and it was a slaughter. The battle view was deceptive. Ours can too when we leave Jesus out.

The deception of battle for us is that we believe we have the high ground. Then, we will attempt to win in our own power. We believe it is a small confrontation, then handle it ourselves. The result is a spiritual slaughter. Then we go to our Lord with our tails kicked.

Take advice from Obi-Wan. It’s over when we have the high ground. Believers have a tactical advantage in surrendering to the King of Kings.

When we are low, lead us to You, Lord—one who is higher than I. Raise us above any battle that wants to overtake us. Thank You that You are the high ground. In Jesus’ name, amen.
