The Fear Walk!

ree

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. Psalm 111:10 NIV.

I recently went on vacation to another state and enjoy walking a daily 5k. I was walking on a cul-de-sac when a teenager came out to run the loop. We both nodded at each other when I reached the top. Then I went on with my walk.

I walked up the cul-de-sac a second and third time. Both had interesting results. The teenager left the loop and hid behind his garage. I saw him peeping out at me. After that, I decided to move to the bottom half of the road to finish my walk. Then, I saw him in the distance, comfortably walking and jogging around the loop again.

My observation was that the individual was afraid of me. Either that or he felt embarrassed to be seen running. He ran and hid several times.

Fear can be a good or bad emotion. It can protect us when something or someone intends us harm. It can also be bad when we fear for no good reason. I had no ill will against this individual, or anyone for that matter. He could’ve gone on with his day, and we would’ve both had a walk-in.

Fear of God is great. It differs from being afraid. It is defined as respect and reverence. When we respect God, we can receive wisdom. Then, we can live long lives and prosper. There are wonderful benefits in the fear of the Lord.

We can’t go through life fearing the unknown because one day, we realize we missed out. Being afraid of taking chances leads to a mediocre existence. Take chances, pray, and walk in reverence to Him who created us.

Lead us into a healthy fear, Lord. Have us walk daily in great respect and reverence for You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
