Spirit of Adoption

ree

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love, he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will. Ephesians 1:4-5 NIV.

And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love' with him. I am well pleased." Matthew 3:17 NIV.

Adoption is something I am fond of. I have two daughters and love them very much. That process brought my daughter into my life.

It involved a process. I did the foster-to-adopt program. This involved classes, tests, and therapy. Then, the enormous financial costs. Snags came along the way. Court cases, lawyers, and complications. It got stressful but well worth it.

I believe Gentiles got adopted into the kingdom just like in American society. It was different in Biblical culture—a spiritual process, not a physical one. The child was presented in the center of town. The father told the whole city, this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. This marked the right of sonship. The father placed His house's authority on the child. The birthright passed to them. The son's voice echoed in his father's. It happened when they turned thirty.

Physical adoption requires work and time. Spiritual adoption is a gift of honor. Jesus presents us with the title son or daughter. God sent us the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, who calls out Abba Father. We are His kids—heirs to His kingdom. I felt honored by the Lord to go through the physical adoption process. We are sons and daughters of the highest God. Let’s pray to understand this.

Instill Your unconditional love in all of us, Lord. Let us see the immense fondness You have for us as children. Let us take that into our daily lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
