Grime, Slime, and Overtime

ree

We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers. 1 Thessalonians 1:2 NIV.

We are a blessed nation. We experience all these comforts—vehicles, cell phones, and other luxuries—but we forget the simple blessings. We go to the sink, and the faucet produces clean water. Then we go to the bathroom and flush, which removes disgusting stuff from our locale. We have a roof over our heads and food in our refrigerator.

Mike Rowe said Grime, Slime, and Overtime. He spent years working dirty jobs. People forget the heroes who serve us daily—workers in sewers, excessive heat, and extreme cold. Ones like my dad are heroes who serve us daily. My dad left while I slept and sometimes returned when I was in bed at night. He worked in negative temperatures without gloves. People needed their electricity, and he was out serving others.

Last year, our power went out for a week. Electrical workers came from all over the country to help Texas. One individual passed away. We felt grateful to have air conditioning again. It was because of those who serve us daily—those who get little recognition.

We should feel grateful for simple blessings and those who provide them. Prayer possesses an immense force. We need to mention those who serve us in them: not only military and first responders but also line workers, HVAC, plumbers, welders, and other blue-collar positions. They all contribute to America's forward movement. Electricians, truck drivers, sewage workers, and others make sure we have comfortable lives.

Thank You for all those that serve us, Lord. Bless them and their families. Protect them as they work in their jobs each day. Give them favor and wisdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
