“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:13-14 NIV.
Texas had a severe snowstorm a couple of years ago. It covered the roads for days. There were no plows or salt trucks here.
Salt trucks lay salt in Pennsylvania before the snow even comes. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are ready to spread salt. Cheap salt unfit for consumption.
Christians have issues today. People prioritize making points over making a difference. They become skilled debaters with a desire to be correct. They can talk the talk. Then forget to fellowship with Him and live through love. They forget to walk the walk.
One of my favorite Greek language structures is singular emphatic. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He said he is the only way (singular emphatic). If we disagree, then we say Jesus is a liar.
Jesus used singular emphatic when he said we are salt and light. People sell quality and cheap salts. I showed someone the cross one time. We were hundreds of feet away. We saw it, but it was small. Then we stood in front of it. We could see it more clearly. Our quality of salt and light depends on how close we are to Jesus. The time we spend with Him and in His Word builds our quality and understanding of kingdom principles and sonship.
Are we quality salt or the type that gets trampled on or run over? We preserve to change the world—good quality singular emphatic salt.
Draw us closer to You today, Lord. Help us pray more and seek Your face. Change us to shine and be salty in this world today. We need more of You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
