Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. Revelation 2:4-5 NIV.
In the DC universe, there is a villain, Mr. Freeze. He is a cold-hearted man who desires the world to freeze. He loves the cold, and his heart is also frozen. This problem also affects Christians.
There's a significant message for me. It is to people in church—the ones who believe they are okay. I thought I was for years, but then I realized I got caught in dead works. Then, I defended sinful behaviors and made up why I believed God condoned them. I was a progressive and taught unbiblical doctrine. I share this journey with you, my fellow believers.
In the last days, people will have forms of godliness but deny His power. The Word says the love of most will grow cold. That word scares me because it says the majority. The majority who assume they're okay are mistaken. Without a relationship, they believe they will enter eternity in dead works.
The Bible also says these same progressives will do many works and acts in His name. They will prophesy, perform miracles, and cast out demons. When they stand before Jesus, he will proclaim He never knew them. The word for most people whose love grew cold is the one they must depart from heaven.
It is vital that we place our relationship with Jesus first in life. A lampstand ran on oil. Oil is His Holy Spirit. We get filled by being in His presence. Believers should desire more of Jesus. Prayer is not just a duty but a powerful tool that should feel simple. The devil uses everything from busyness, temptations, and good dead works to distract us from the true path. Let's return to our initial passion. Spend time with our Lord daily in prayer.
Break the distractions that pull us away from You, Lord. Remove them from our lives. Lead us back to You and Your beautiful love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
